We had a wonderful time visiting my family last week. It was james’s spring break/summer break. We left at 2:30am on Saturday morning. We were hoping to do most of the traveling while luther was still asleep. Our plan worked well. We only had to stop twice. It was so nice traveling in our new van. That evening, we went to a wedding (Ashley & Josh) of some of my high school friend’s. It was a beautiful outdoor wedding, and luther seemed to enjoy himself. It was fun to see several old friends from high school. Sunday we went to church and then had a cookout. The weather was so beautiful all week long. It was in the 80’s and never rained. On Monday my dad took of work early to take us canoeing on a creek. We stopped twice on sandbars to swim and fish. Luther loved the water. He would have sat and played forever. It is great how well he can sit up now. It makes everything much more fun for him. We had a fish fry that night. On Tuesday we went to visit my meemaw at her farm. My dad and james caught lots of fish in her pond. Luther enjoying riding around on my dad shoulders looking at everything. On Wednesday we went to the beach. It was beautiful! Luther refused to take a nap that day, so that made things a bit difficult. He didn’t enjoy the beach as much as he could have if he had not been so tired. On Thursday, some of our dear family friends, the Lucas’s had a big party for luther at their home. Luther loved all of the attention and lots of people got to see him for the first time. I finally got the see Daniel & Alyssa’s little girl, Maggie, who was born just 2 days before Luther. I was fun to compare notes of what the babies are doing. On Friday morning we had to leave to come back home. Dad & Candice rode back with us to pick up my old car. Candice is going to be driving it to save on gas, because she has a SUV. The stayed all day on Saturday and left on Sunday morning. Dad helped us plant a vegetable garden in our back yard. We spent most the day on Saturday at my grandparent’s house. My grandfather has not been out of the bed I over 2 weeks. We were hoping we could encourage him to get up. No such luckL We were hoping to spend to day on the lake, but it rained all day long!!
James started his Family Medicine rotation today. This is his last rotation of his 3 year of med school. He will start his 4th year as soon as this 2 month rotation is over. He has exactly one year left, because the med school graduation was this past weekend. I can’t believe that will be him walking across the stage receiving his MD in just one year!! The 4th year is much more laid back- less tests, no weekends or call. But, there is a lot of traveling for interviews and away rotations. I always have to remind myself what they told us when he first started school. “Never expect that it is going to get better, just different”
